I'd more phrase it as, "he is a huge dork"... but he can be very insightful about film. I learned a lot from him. But he moved away from being a critic into being a sketch comedy guy, which he is terrible at. Last time I tried watching a NC video, half of it was promotion for some awful app where your reactions to trailers are recorded. The more recent tea is still readily accessible on social media and getting YT attention within the community. So I feel like I'm on much sturdier ground there. CA is a video reviewers collective that tried to creative an infrastructure to monetize their content in the early days of YT circa 07 or 08. It sounds kind of grassroots, and like a fun enterprise between friends, but it was actually a bit of corporation. The Nostalgia Critic, The guy with the glasses, Linkara, Lindsay Ellis, Angry Joe and several other YT personalities started their channels or have had recognizable connections to Channel Awesome. They've been losing content creators since 2014 with notable people cutting ties from 2015. Then last month there was another handful of content creators cutting ties with CA, followed by a huge 60+ page tell all of collected complaints and stories ranging from workplace toxicity, shitty management, exploitation, emotional abuse, harassment, etc started making the rounds on twitter, to which the heads of Channel Awesome issued a pretty weak not-apology essentially saying they were sorry some people felt bad. Cue even more content creators jumping ship. And then a couple days ago they posted another not-apology to their homepage accusing the more vocal critics recorded in the initial tell-all of mendaciously whipping up drama to hurt the channel. Looks like he only got the position as CEO because no one else wanted to it at the time and the reason they can't fire him because Mike owns the exclusive rights to the Nostalgia Critic. legendarylemur 04/12/18 3:57:38 PM #33:	FACT From the beginning of the site, anyone that has been added as a content partner was informed that ChannelAwesome.com was an aggregator for their content. At no time did Channel Awesome take a cut of their videos, as the practice is with Multi Channel Networks (MCNs). We never wanted to be an MCN and only asked them to schedule their videos that they already were doing for Blip.tv and YouTube. We gave them access to over 30 million page views and over a million unique viewers a month at our height. Channel Awesome viewed the partnership as a way to help content partners grow their audience while bringing in new content and increasing the community within the site. Further benefiting content partners, Channel Awesome covered all costs associated with server, hosting and labor costs associated with maintenance and updates. Some content partners even had their servers for their own sites paid for by Channel Awesome. None of these costs were ever passed along to our content partners. I think this part is the only really agreeable part of the whole thing. Somehow he managed to convince them to sign it over to them, so if they kick him out the Nostalgia critic brand goes away (where they get the majority of their ad revenue and sponsorships from).
