How do you answer this professionally without mentioning because your current employers don't pay you enough.

Ummmmm... No to all these responses.

The correct response is the company you're interviewing has opportunities that aligns with your career strategy and your current skill-set is a good fit for the position.

Never tell them you want to make more money that's fucking stupid.

It's always about advancing your career, skills, and working for a company and team you find prestige in.

The fuck is these answers? Just tell them that you want new challenges and more pay. Is there some sort of dirty secret where employers dont realise people want jobs to earn more money?

My answer was always something along the lines of:

"I'm looking for opportunities to grow. My current employer has provided me with a great deal of growth and knowledge within my career, however there are very few opportunities to grow within the company. At this point, I feel that I have outrgrown the position and am looking for a new challenge."

Pay is always negotiable and if it isn't why even have an interview?

In the past when head hunters call me that's the first question I ask them "what is the pay range?" Because there is no sense wasting peoples time if the pay isn't there.

And I never give out my current wage. Why on gods green earth would I tell them how much I'm making?

Interviewers have already heard all the business buzzword bullshit. If you just straight up say you're looking for more money it'll be a refreshing dose of straight talk and they'll appreciate it.

Pay should definitely be discussed. No one works for fun and the interviewer knows that. Never play your hand though. If you reveal your current salary you're opening the door for them to lowball you.

Wrong.

Any real business isn't interested in you wanting to make more money. It's a given we all want to make more money.

What they want to hear is that you're going to be a good fit for the team\culture and are a good investment for them. No one wants to employee someone and train them, and waste time and money only for them to be a job jumper.

And if a "good for for the team/culture" is regurgitating rehearsed buzzwords, that's not a company you want to work for anyway. Let's run it up the flagpole, promote synergy and think outside the box.

He obviously doesn't know what he is talking about and is just salty because he can't get a lucrative career within a prestigious enterprise.

They have interviewed people before. They know when you're BS ing them because they've heard it before.

No your biggest weakness isn't working too hard.

So I give it to them straight. In fact, I even bring it up myself.

"Do you have any questions?"
"I worked salaried a job once where my boss came to me after I had been there about a year and demanded I work more. I promptly quit that job. Is that something I need to be concerned with here?"
