The basic instinct of self-preservation has gone right out the fuckin window, it's insane. If the methane stored deep within the arctic thaws (it will) we likely won't even make it to the end of the century.

We're currently in a mass extinction event, and we have had the technology to prevent or slow it for a long time.

Because self-preservation instincts have nothing to do with knowledge that the planet would become uninhabitable some unspecific time in the future? Instincts like that have literally nothing to do with the long-term.

I doubt it's actually going to be the apocalyptic event you think it's going to be. It's not going to be pleasant, no doubt. But we'll probably make it someway or another.
