It takes some drastic liberties but overall I like it a lot. Wasn't keen on Neil Patrick Harris at first but now it's hard to imagine someone else in the role

I like it. I never like to judge a film/tv adaption by the source material so any issues on that front are lost on me
it's enjoyable which is all I need

I think it's super charming and the word play is fun. I pretty much like every character that shows up at all

yeah, the wordplay is a huge part of the books charm so I was surprised how well they were able to transition it to the show

my only complaint is that I feel Lemony is miscast, but that might be because I thought Jude Law was perfect

at first warburton threw me for a loop, but i like his monotone and stoicism. he grew on me but i wasn't keen on him either.

my biggest complaint is i wish count olaf was taller, but that's about it. i used to think he wasn't as dark in the show as he was in the books, but he's pretty dark so idk what i was smoking

and this is the only other thing i dont jive with

but in season 2, the characters speak really fucking quickly

Harris and Warburton sell it, Harris goes all in on some of the disguises. Not that crazy about the kids.

lol I expected as much. Can't see how they can pull that off in live action without making it seem incredibly fake. Though speaking of Sunny, how fast did they change her expertise from sharp teeth to cuisine? I remember the books abruptly did it in like book 9 and it kind of came out of nowhere after all these books mainly focusing on her teeth (should've just given it to Klaus since his book genius isn't really that helpful). Did they make the gourmet genius change earlier here or give it to someone else/remove it entirely?

the show has her helping out with cooking here and there, in what i assume is to make the change less drastic

you should watch it regardless. it's overall very faithful and somehow manages to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the books. it's uncanny tbh

lol Sir doesn't have his head covered in smoke. I just realized how fucking weird and untranslatable to live action a lot of aspects of the books were. It's almost like a fantasy. Still looks pretty neat though and I'll binge it after season 3 comes out.

it doesn't capture the atmosphere whatsoever though. the books were funny but they took themselves seriously. the show doesn't take itself seriously at all

imma have to disagree with you there. count olaf can be outright scary in the show. he can also be outright cartoonish in the books. he has done some pretty effin cheesy and funny things

Amazing show, as someone who read the books as a kid they got just about everything right.

They better take massive liberties with the ending because its still the most blueball inducing thing ever

god i want a happy ending so badly, or at least an ending with answers. i'm sure we'll get maybe an answer or two because of how involved Daniel Handler is with the show, but i'm not expecting anything big like the sugar bowl. we might get to see the kids' fate tho which i really hope

The CGI is bad, but that is to be expected in a television show. Great supporting casts, all the adult actors do their part splendidly, my only concern were the Baudelaire child actors/actresses... I think they're really bad. With that said, I heard that they significantly improve for season 2, so I will be checking it out.

IIRC, Carnivorous Carnival is when she first indicates it. She just throws some cinnamon in some cocoa. Slippery Slope expands it a bit by having her make lox and some kinda roll for Olaf's troupe.

Show spoilers.
The show has actually confirmed 100% what VFD stands for and gone into its history a bit, so I'm guessing we'll get more answers.
