So why not at least retain that one as canon? Linda Hamilton is Sarah Connor and Edward Furlong is John Connor. Period. If you can't/don't want them in the movie then make the story about other people. Also, that article has some outdated info with the bit about Cameron wanting to do a trilogy. That was when someone else had the rights to the series and it was supposed to start with Genisys. Cameron regains the rights to the series next year and can do whatever he wants now.
