Why is this becoming a race thing. the character is dark skinned. people were more so criticizing the costume and wig which makes her look like some hoe of the night

People should actually read what the actress wrote. It's not SJWism at all. She actually responds to the two camps separately. To the ones just saying the design is bad, she says that it's a sloppy, out-of-context picture of her in bad weather and misrepresents both the character and the production. Then, completely separately, she talks about the hate speech she's gotten. And I think we can all agree that she has 100% gotten hate messages from people mad that she's black.

Yesterday a photo of me on set leaked online. And it was unfortunate because fans have been waiting MONTHS for a photo of Starfire and a sloppy () photo of me on a curb in 15 degree weather is what they got instead For the sake of our incredible fans - I hated that this is the first picture people are seeing. Its out of context and its a misrepresentation of the incredible character I get to play. And also a misrepresentation of the phenomenal production behind it all.
With that said - the hate speech that followed was deplorable. And though I am highly unbothered I do want to use this as an opportunity to say that tearing people down is not something that I tolerate. For myself or anyone else. Too often social media is abused by some who find refuge in the anonymity and detachment it provides: misused as a tool to harass, abuse, and spew hatred at others. This is weak, sad, and a direct reflection of the abuser.

Racist, derogatory, and/or cruel comments have nothing to do with the person on the receiving end of that abuse. And because I know this - Im unfazed :) But for anyone out there who may not - I am here to remind you that whatever ugly and negative thing anyone ever chooses to say about you is always a reflection and revelation of themselves- it does NOT define you, and it certainly does NOT make you any less perfect than you are - Be you! Stay beautiful! Live breezy :) As always,

She's pretty clearly playing damage control.

If it was an out of context thing and that's nothing like how she's supposed to look, it'd be really easy to just show an actual image of how she's supposed to look.

Saying "Nah that's not how it'll look" vs. a picture of how she looks is a pointless argument that won't work. Showing a counter-picture of how she's supposed to look would speak far louder.

If there's going to be CGI or effects added, it wouldn't be that easy just to show a picture of how she's supposed to look. Or if my semi-joking suggestion that they're undercover and her appearance is a joke is true, then they'd be spoiling a storyline.

But yeah, it's probably just bad design. She can't really say that though.

They just haven't yet. There are only official images for Hawk, Dove, and Robin. The others are just set photos.

If those in charge care at all about it looking bad they should be more than happy to show how good it's supposed to look. If they can't, it's not reasonable at all to expect people to take the word of someone who has a vested interest in the whole thing not being viewed negatively over images.

She's almost certainly signed a non disclosure agreement, and can't show or talk about whatever she wants.

I saw the rest of the cast described as looking like 'employees at Hot Topic'.

That photo is definitely terrible though. Both from the 'truckstop hooker' vibe it gives off to the general low quality of the costume which makes it look like a $5.99 Halloween costume.

She looks like a cheap hooker. That's not even an orange wig. Its fuschia.

Shes attractive. She can probably nail the role, but they could have at LEAST given her a costume that resembled the comics or animated shows.
