I haven't actually seen it again since the day it came out, but my opinion of it, which started out positive, has kept getting better since.

It added exactly nothing to the Star Wars universe. Perhaps there was nothing they really could add, after so much had been explained already. Even so, then don't make the movie. We don't HAVE to have Star Wars films.

I was like you. Maybe it's just cause I'm buzzed, but I feel differently thinking about it. I saw it twice, and enjoyed both viewings. I felt from the get go it wasn't as good as TFA, but liked it more than RO and the prequels.

My opinion grew on it as well. I really defended it. I loved Snokes death Rey being a nobody. Hell I loved the animal scenes. The only thing I truly disliked from the get go was Space Leia, it breaks the force for me. But yeah, liked it a lot and defended it.

Idk, now thinking about it I see it as silly and pretentious. It's a weirdly smug film, that does some cool shit yet still somehow feels like it's simply going through the motions while doing so.

Yeah outside of the Throne Room scene and Kylo and Luke's showdown, all the action scenes were so flats. Really boring, and the movie really doesn't have much actual plot, TLJ just feels empty to me thinking about it

the movie makes it so that there's no reason to be excited for ep 9. the biggest threat is gone and the main character can woman-handle everyone else.

The First Order is still around. Snoke was a poorly explained character who wasn't established as anything before the film started.

Yeah Snoke sucks tbh.

Pretty much everything about the conflict as set up sucks. The Force Awakens should have just been a standalone film and not attempt to launch a franchise. I liked The Force Awakens, but there's nowhere to go but stupidity.

Tbf SW is a franchise already. It is THE franchise, and no one buys a company like LF for 4b to make one movie. The new trilogy was the way to go, the problem is it's clear there was so specific arc for it. It'd make sense to keep it somewhat loose so they could adapt each movie in the ST to fit the strengths of what they would have found to work. But, there's clearly no real framework for where this should have gone in the first place

You know what I mean, like try to set up a new series of films with its own mythos and story. It was trying to relaunch a franchise - which is fine, but then don't imply further films. They were trying to do it like the original movies, which also had no framework where they should have gone either. There was no actual plan to have Vader the dad, Leia the sister, etc. The Force was just a vague plot device that allowed a series of convenient things to happen (including allowing an actor who didn't want to be in the series full time to step back). But what they didn't realize is that the difference is you have a bunch of characters in it that already have backstories and histories, not to mention a lore and a history that has established workings. So it limits where you can go.
