Having to put our cat down. She got a disease since we started letting her go out and went blind and now not eating. Wondering how other people felt. Would you stay with the cat or was it too much to bear? Girlfriend will hopefully give me a lift down there and pick me up after.

You owe it to them to be with them when it happens. I had to put my cat down after she tested positive for feline leukemia, and I held her until the very end.

My first dog I didn't. I said good bye to him at the vet but walked out before they did it, and I regret it to this day, over 15 years later. I was a kid then though and my parents probably didn't want me to. I remember seeing him freaking out and wanted me to come back.

My 2nd dog I was in the room with him. I'll never forget he licked my face and said goodbye. He knew it was the end, he was so brave, and I was with him and saw the light go out in his eyes. It still makes me cry to this day but I felt good knowing he was at peace and happy at the end

We had to put down 2 of our cats. The first one I had since 2nd grade. He had a thyroid issue and I was in the room and watched him just fade out. I immediately went to the parking lot and threw up....he was my buddy.

Same with the second cat, but I got him in seventh grade. We had to put him down a few months ago. I wasn't there for that, but when my folks walked in with an empty carrying case, I knew what happened.

I'm sorry for your loss

Yeah
I had a cat that had failing kidneys and she was having stuff build up in her muscles and it hurt her to move. She also didn't eat much anymore. She could ve stuck around awhile longer but would ve lived in terrible pain.

When we put her down I held her paw as she faded out. It was rough, but I felt like I should be there.

Honestly, it sucks being in there. I wouldn't blame anyone for not doing it. I kind of wish that I wouldn't have.

I stayed when I had to put my family cat down. I wanted my cat's last moments to be the thoughts of someone she loved petting her, and not her being scared that some stranger in a strange place was doing something to her.

I tried to but the vet wouldn't do it. I found my cat dead half under my bed about two weeks later.

Also, TC is Izual and is the guy who continually makes trolling topics about his cat and how his girlfriend forced him to declaw it, let it out, get rid of it, etc. This is a fucked up thing to troll about, but we can still discuss this topic seriously despite him.

FYI: Admiral always gets this upset when he doesn't get the attention he craves. It's a personality flaw of his and he can't help it. Let's give him some thoughts and prayers and move on with our day and hope that he finds some love in his life.

My sister and I both came into town when my parents had to put our dog of 13-14 years down. We didn't actually stay until she died. The vet told us when she was no longer coherent and we could leave

I remember a vet saying that the pet always looks for its owner after it leaves the room. I think I'd have to stay with it just based on that.

If by putting it down you mean shooting it after it got tragically ran over and then burying by a tree then yes.

My cat of 12 years got sick abruptly 3 days ago and died before I even had the chance to take him to the vet. Im still distraught and sort of in shock about it. Didnt get the chance to make a proper farewell

Sorry for your loss. We've got an appointment tomorrow to see the vet. Can't believe how expensive it is.

I don't get it. I was asking for advice on the issue. Luckily this hasn't affected my relationship with my girlfriend.

10 years old. abdominal tumor due to cancer. couldn't stay with her it was too much to bear.
2 options was heard: remove the fluid and buy time with not knowing how long before she blew up again or put her to sleep. chose the second option (it would prolong her suffering).

Yes. A year ago I put my cat down and I held him until the end. He fell asleep in my arms, grew heavy, and never woke up. He went out calm and licking my hand.

If you love that cat, you will stay with it till it passes...

Much better that the cat be with someone it knows trusts rather than scared to death from strangers for it's last moments.
