You probably could have filed it for free if it's that cheap.

Depending on how much money you made you may not even have needed to file the returns

You should just file them online yourself. It's not that hard.

I did but I was a ponce last year and paid for the premium HR block so I could roll all of last years info over to this year and that means they charge you to file. I'm just gonna make a new account next year and only do the free version.

Imagine paying to use TurboTax or H&R Block when there's other software that's much cheaper than them readily available online.

Lol it takes like ten seconds to type that information in, the only thing you ever really need from the previous year's return was what your reported adjusted gross income was.

Grill me boys, grill me.

Worst of all, I did my parents taxes this year which has a W-2, some 1099's, retirement blah blah investment blah blah and they filed for free. I debated not bothering to file state, since I knew I'd get a return, but what I read on the NC gov site didn't answer my question as to whether or not it was necessary.

you always have to pay to file state. even on the "free" softwares. $40 is the standard, don't feel so bad.

I found the requirements in about 45 seconds with a Google search.

Is this trolling?

$8,750 for Single

I would just assume that if you made over that much (if you're single) then regardless of any deductions or anything like that you'd be safe just filing the return.

I know you don't have to file federal if they owe you that's why I was wondering about NC. Yes, i saw that. Yes I do. Yes I filed.

There's a site, I think on the IRS page, that has lists of free software you can use, some states provide simple filing solutions if you're under a certain income amount or something like that.
