Ive never played one and wanna get into the series.

Should I start with DQ1 or is it like FF1 where it's so outdated that it just feels more like a chore?

Honestly, there are DS/3DS games you can play and I hear 7 is great. I liked 8 a lot. 9...was okay.

11 is coming out soon. you don't need to play any other game to try it...basically a good start.

III, IV, V, VII, VIII, and IX are easy enough to get into, bolded my favorite

but why 9? It was so lackluster. You got to create characters, yes, but that meant no real interactions between them. Towns had such basic plots that felt so boring. After 8, I just didn't like it. I tried to but couldn't enjoy it.

it was fine for what it was and the mercenary guild thing was a nice throwback to DQ3
the main game itself was not groundbreaking but fun.

it also had a ton of post game content that is now unplayable because online support for the game is gone
of course the worst thing being that all the data for the extra content is on the cartridge its just inaccessible

I guess, I was just a bit let down after playing 8 so much. I was expecting really interesting quests within the main quest like I had with 8. I still remember the Templar quest and how interesting it was.

I'm so excite for 11.

I agree that IX is a letdown after VIII. I just meant that it's fairly easy to get into because it's simple and was on the DS (although yusiko brings up a good point about the DLC, I bet there's a way to use action replay to access it though)

but yes, I can't fucking wait for XI. I was gonna get it on Switch, but assuming the port is good it'll be PC for me

DQVII is just so long though, especially the amount of time it takes to finally unlock the job system. Not by any means a bad game.

So.So.many jrpgs claim to be 80 hours long but are over in 30/40

Where as dq7 claim to be 80 hours long is also a lie but in a different way
It's only 80 hours if you don't do any of the side content
If you do the side content it's closer to a 120 hour long game
