But then slaps you in the face with extreme brutal difficulty, that would destroy even the most seasoned player.

The juxtopositon of cuteness and difficulty of games like Rayman, Mr. Nutz, Plok, Blinx, Cuphead, and even the Crash games to an extent, just to catch everyone off-guard as hard as possible, is perhaps the best combination of that.

Otherwise, they're trying too hard if they are trying to destroy you, but the game also looks like it's for heavily experienced gamer men in their mid 20's anyway.

Simply make the game's aesthetics as child-friendly as possible, and then proceed to destroy the player in any and all possible ways.
