Yeah the IRS has really stepped up in terms of working with people. Not everyone can wtite checks but they can all get itunes giftcards.

I got the same call. They left a very vague voice message.

Me and my brother had a good laugh about it.

I got one too, I thought the funniest thing was how they said the government was going to sue me for "The tax fraud".

I got one yesterday that said "Hi, I just bought a house in your neighborhood and I love the area, I was wondering if you are looking to sell your house"

....lol like I own a house.

I got a call yesterday.

C: Is this (insert my real name)?
M: Yes.
C: Can you confirm the last 4 digits of your SSN?
M: No.

That's when I hung up.

I always get "this is your last warning about your student loan debts blah, blah, blah." I get multiple last warnings every week.

I don't get those anymore because I have a blacklist app on my phone, so any numbers not in my contacts list gets ignored and immediately sent to voice mail. If they leave a spam voice mail, then I block the number from recording voice mails and instead they just get hung up on automatically.

I rarely get calls like that, usually never

Though i have gotten 2 calls with international numbers
First one was from some African nation, forget where though
The second was an ex Soviet nation, was either Lithuania or Estonia.

Got one of those "IRS" calls several years ago, I'm ashamed to admit that it took me a few minutes to figure out it was a scam.

OTOH, got another of those "extended warranty" scam letters today, approved for another 100,000 miles. It doesn't say which car: my 36 year old P-type Supra or my 31 year old Celica. I wish it wasn't a scam, be nice to have major repairs covered if I blow up the Yamaha turbo engine in the Celica.

Best thing about this is, itunes cards are region locked. And I guarantee it is to prevent money laundering. Though i guess these guys wouldn't care sell a $25 itunes card for $20 on craigslists you still get $20 out of it, and the other person has a dead code.

I've had that call before

I kept them on the line for as long as I could just to waste their time. Eventually they got tired of it and said the police are coming to get me now and hung up.

Funny thing they never asked for money or information from me.

I work at a bank, and it's amazing how many people fall for that.

'So wait... you drove to Wal Mart. Spent 1000 dollars for a gift card. Then read that number over the phone to someone you don't know?'

They all expect to be able to dispute it and get their money back too. Then they all claim that the bank is supposed to protect their money. Well yeah, until you willingly give that money to a stranger out of sheer stupidity.....

what you are actually doing is confirming you're on the line, then the automated system transfers you to the real person.

Actually some of those free cruise ones went to a class action suit where people can get $X per call. But just recently the court began requiring people to send in verification of them owning the number(s) they called with the offer. Before that you just filled out an online form and waited for the payout.

That being said, I've had all kinds of weird calls in my life...

When I was a kid, our home phone number was listed in the books under my dead granddad's name so that we could screen for BS. I loved saying "no, he's dead" when they asked for him. Most of the time they got very uncomfortable and said goodbye, occasionally they thought I was joking or would just ask if they could talk to somebody else about their dumb shit.

They don't even own a Microsoft computer. The only thing they have is an iPad.
