It's no small secret that Mexican cartels are dangerous. Comparing them to ISIS is a bit of a stretch, though.

Well, due to the lopsided nature of news reporting they're the only other violent collective I know about... so it's more a lack of options than anything.

if a country like saudi arabia, china, the u.s. or russia supplied them with military grade bomb materials they'd use them
we're told they're just 'extremist' but the bombs they used blow apart buses

The cartels have a lot more money and power. Theyre just as brutal if not moreso. I would actually say theyre more dangerous between the two.
