Maybe instead of trying to make people feel self shame for buying shit you could try to raise awareness to charities that actually help people that need it. Im not gonna feel bad every time I buy something because we dont live in a perfect world. Id rather be as happy and as productive as I can as a person and actually see what I can do to change things for the better in some small way

Actually I think it would be a good thing if more people gave up their obsession with owning things. Yet at the same time I myself can't imagine being an internet streaming only viewer of media. I like 'owning' copies of the movies I really really like and being able to get rid of them for a couple shekels if I get bored or tired of them.
