I'm reading this 1,000 page source book and it's such a chore trying to dilettante between the different philosophies (read bout dao, confucious, mozi)

I'm reading Mencius right now..I have about 20 pages left and then Sun Tzu..

So I'm going to keep it very general

Mencius seems like an optimist almost? That people are born with good in them, and must act accordingly. And if people fail to do so they're not fufilling their role of society. He criticizes the legalist and almost vogues for a Utopian like society <_<.

Am I way off base? Reading this is like reading Chinese lol.

When I was working on my Philosophy undergrad, I found this website to be immensely helpful in digesting information that was complex and hard to understand: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/mencius/

It should have just about everything you need to get a basic grasp, then once you know that, you can analyze the finer details.

Thank you..this is so hard to read.

Hold it..

This is before Qin unifies China? So all this Philosophy is to try and make sense of the warring stats and dealing with the turmoil after the Duke of Zhou stepped down? And all philosophy has ties to Confucious?

My History friend is calling in a bit..i'll talk to him. The professor noted that what we have now was later written down by the Hans because under Qin all Confucian ideology was burned.
