felt like Metroid to me and you don't have to use that item
combat is an issue though, regular enemies are bullet sponges unless you make use of the Melee Counter one way or another, I found freezing them with the Ice Beam then smashing them with the Melee Counter was actually pretty fun, but actually going through with the Simon Says charade is too drawn out, bosses are fine though ...
