This has nothing to do with Batman and everything to do with Thanos. Infinity Gauntlet comic spoilers: Comic Thanos, at least in this point in time, subconsciously sabotages himself to keep himself from winning whenever he gets too strong. In this story, for instance, he defeats Eternity and Thanos takes his role as the living embodiment of the universe.
