The place where I had my first summer job during three years in high school recently burned down and it got me thinking.. how many of my previous work locations have ceased to exist.

First job: Destroyed by fire
Summer 2008: Bankrupted 2 years later
2010-2013: Building was demolished and replaced with a much larger building... good thing too... that place was a death trap in an earthquake.

My first job has the same ownership, but my cousin is somehow now the manager. Second job moved to a larger location, the location itself was remodeled into a restaurant on the old sales floor and I think a salon in the back.

My first real job was at a department store that used to be fairly big here in Canada. A few years after I quit, it was bought out by Target and they replaced most of its old locations with Target stores. Which failed miserably. I have no idea what's in that location now but it's definitely not what it once was. Come to think of it it was fairly new when I started there, having only replaced a Wal-Mart that moved a few years earlier.

Soooo you worked for Zellers lol.

I remember hearing the news when they started getting bought up by Target. All the employees were hopeful that they were FINALLY being bought by a successful retailer. Guess we both know how that turned out for them.

Yeah kind of figured the Canadian CEmen would recognize that story lol

Seems like the big department stores are dying out here, Zellers died, Target flopped, Sears just vanished. Got to wonder how long the Bay can hold out. Wal-Mart I'm sure will manage to live on forever though.
