Well, I have fun with it. I liked it better than both Zelda II and Twilight Princess... It's on my top 10 list, while those 2 didn't make the cut...

If it wasn't for "The Adventure of Link" and "Breath of the Wild", "Skyward Sword" would be the worst Zelda game.

Have you ever made a post that wasn't completely awful? I mean, jeez, you really have to try to be so bad. Even ICOYAR has tolerable posts sometimes

Skyward Sword would be awesome if it wasn't motion controlled.

I will have to patch that shit out one day. Dolphin devs say it's too big a part of the game to replace with buttons, but I don't think so.

Sword/item aim to 360 right stick, sword swing to right trigger (swing in direction of right stick), x for quick horizontal swing, y for verticle, beetle aim to left stick. See? Wii motion controls are completely useless in every case.

You could probably make buttons work for it. But it could get complicated at some parts. But, whatever...

I was not a big fan or The Adventure of Link. But the other two were great.

the issue with that is it would require far, far more in-depth changes rather than just map to button like you can do with regular waggle games

personally from what I played I actually liked the motion controls when they were used reasonably but then you had shit like balance across ths tightrope and waggle carefully to swim, my other issues as I played were 1) Link feels terrible to move around, feels more sluggish than he ever has before or since 2) the surface segments I played through were all absolutely insufferable for reasons I can't recall

I tried giving the game another shot a year or two ago because I could get a discount coupon for it on the Wii U eShop and how awful Link felt just walking around instantly made me drop it

I am the master of user interface my friend. Every single UI I use frustrates me with something.

I've suggested lists of ideas to YouTube and Google that were implemented a month later. Just don't ask me what they were.

I think it's less about whether they could do it, and more about them wanting to do their own thing. Which is unfortunately what killed Nintendo for me. But if it made them more fans than they lost, good for them. The last Nintendo console I owned was GC.

On that note, the last LoZ game I played was about fifteen minutes from the beginning of Majora's Mask, and then watched someone play a ways into the story. I did not like it as much as OoT. I don't care for cel-shading, so that was the end of LoZ for me (Wind Waker).

I certainly had problems, but I didn't hate the game when I was done with it. Not my favorite Zelda game for sure, but not horrible.

3 biggest issues with the game.

First and foremost, the game is heavily focused around the motion control combat, but the combat was exceedingly boring. Almost none of your items are useful for combat, so the boring motion control sword combat is all you do for basically the entire game. Also, the motion controls were not always responsive, you try to parry and it doesn't come out, a lot.

The game lies to you about how the motion controls work to get you to think they are more accurate than they really are. The game is not reading you 1:1 at all, all it's really reading is if you flick the Wiimote and which direction your holding it, it can't actually read your swings. Oddly enough, you fight enemies that block the direction your sword is facing fairly early, and unless you know how the Wiimote is actually reading your inputs, the only way to defeat these enemies is to stand up and do a 360 degree spin in real life in the reverse direction the enemy is blocking, which is ridiculous.

Game hand holds you to a comical extent. It's more the game telling you what to place where than you solving anything yourself.

Not a top 3 issue but there is a lot of required back tracking to pad the already very long run time of the game in which the main component of the game isn't that fun.

I really liked most of the dungeons and the crafting system, but the lack of a proper overworld impeded the overall experience quite a bit. I never had a problem with the motion controls, aside from that awful harp,

That harp was pretty awful with the controls. But I also agree that I don't remember much issue with the controls...

To me, it wasn't a horrible games. Personally, I like all Zelda games because they're Zelda games. But TP, Idk... It wasn't really my style. I didn't really like the wolf parts much. Being stuck a wolf, that is. Changing later was fine. Like back and forth whenever... And I believe 3 systems in a row is a bit much.

I don't understand the "not 1:1" complaint. How does that matter in the context of the game and combat design? Either you swing at a right angle or 45 degrees... is that a problem? The game isn't throwing 30 degree angles at you, and how would that even be better? That would just make the angles more difficult to hit. Also I've never felt like I had to spin 360 degrees to hit an enemy...

Edit: It is pretty near 1:1 in the non-combat parts too

I agree people who complain about motion controls lack broad hand eye coordination movements, or didnt set up their play area appropriately.

The writing, pacing, and childish pastel coloring were the main turnoffs in the game for me.

Not to mention the mini collection fetch quests that are required to finish the game.

I heard one theory that some of the WMP's that were bundled with the game might have been defective, which would explain how incredibly polarizing the controls were at the time (people either found they worked well or found they were barely playable). No idea how true that was, but it makes a lot of sense to me, particularly where I'm guessing a good number of people who bought SS didn't have a WMP before then (because there wasn't much reason to).
