It doesn't look that professional to have a rainbow manuscript but it's convenient to immediately know who's speaking.

I like games that have character portraits.

I remember one of the early fansubs I watched for Bleach way back in the day would use different color subs for different characters, and at least one early scanlation would use different fonts. I thought it was a nice touch.

I'm only fine with different colored text if it doesn't melt into the background. Although, I'm not much of a fan of the whole "RED TEXT MEANS THIS IS IMPORTANT!" thing that goes on in video games. Like seriously, you don't need to hang a fucking lantern on something. You're just ruining the damn suspense that way.
