Almost.
Everyone but enterprise will slowly migrate over to some-odd linux distro once Microsoft finally pulls the trigger on subscription Windows.

They wouldn't do that, would they? They've got a good enough thing going selling OS's at ridiculous prices considering there are free ones available for anyone to download.

Most consumers never really see that, with the cost of an OEM license rolled into the PC price.
Once the year of Kapersky or McAffee or whatever becomes replaced with a year of Windows, and the OS itself becomes ransomware, Linux may well start being taken seriously for desktop.

This, of course, assumes that a linux distro will actually become idiot-proof (no more 'sudo apt-get' for pretty much every-damn-thing) in the meantime.

God I wish. I recently built a windows PC for games and junk, and it is SO annoying to use command prompt instead of Bash.

A cheapo laptop I was using's hard drive died recently, I replaced it with a formatted SSD and installed Mint on it.

Superficially it's a little different than Windows but really it seems pretty idiot proof.

The fact that "Linux teachers" even exist demonstrates why Linux will never be popular for home use.

That will never happen, he's talking out of his ass. What's already happening is many large companies are supporting both Mac and Linux for end users. Windows fucked themselves after 7 by not cleaning their shit up. Essentially I think Windows will become irrelevant over the next 10 years or so and Microsoft will just focus more on their other products.

It's pretty idiot proof. My grandpa hasn't managed to fuck up the Ubuntu partition we gave him.

99% of the course was stuff no home user would ever need, ex. partitioning, permissions, bash scripting, etc.

It was basically "intro to sysadmin," less "intro to linux."
