We didn't and the native Americans might never have done so, but the people in charge basically did, so here we are.

Too late to turn back at this point.

Fun-fact for the day: Greco-Romans discovered steam power long before the more advanced world of A.D did, but they said "this is stupid, we have slaves to do this work." And nobody heard of automated mechanism for generations to come.

I think he is saying that left to their own devices, the Native Americans would not have advanced technologically due to their more relaxed lifestyle that was very nature/survivalist-centric. More focus on community and spiritual and emotional well-being than greed and global glory.

Exactly, they had lived for thousands of years without advancing, and could well still have been living a similar lifestyle right now if left to their own devices.

I consider that a good thing, I do love technology, and would have a hard time living now without it as I am so used to it, but...I do not think it is good for this planet.

Good thing they're from Asia and can go back whenever they want, just like we can!

I'm almost done with my 3rd reading of "Ready Player One". I bought the book on April 22nd.

As an 80's child, it did a great job of invoking reminiscence of my childhood.

As a lifelong gamer, sci-fi and fantasy fan, it tugged at my desire for an actual holodeck.

As a being that longs for an infinitely sustainable existence, a real world of moderation coexisting with a virtual world of ultimate excess, seems ideal.

Pretty sure the Romans used the aquaduct system to cool their homes as well, so basically air conditioning.

Why do cats get inside boxes? It's what they do.
Why do dogs bark when they hear another dog bark? It's what they do.
Why do you switch to Geico if you want to save 15% on car insurance? It's what you do.
Why did humans choose to advance technology? It's what we do.

And the Mayan just sort of ate shit the entire time? Also the Incans never existed?
There are ancient temples that are found every 5-10 years in the jungle, this isn't some "oh look, these people could read or write" when they could. They had currency, beacracy, and everything else for a medival time period.
