I have been storming through manga, as you may have noticed. Some thoughts.

Berserk - I last read a few chapters before they got off the board when Rickert showed up. Berserk does feel a little...odd right now. I think it's just spent so long in a cooldown mode in regards to grit, and the release schedule is amplifying that. Hard to beleive the GutsZod lightning charge wasn't even that long ago chapter wise, when it was the point I reached when I first caught up with the manga over 8 years ago.

Hunter x Hunter - Just unbelievable how little it took to catch up after 3 years. That said, wow is this arc wordy. Berserk gets off the boar, HxH gets on one! I'm actually very invested in the intrigue of this arc, it's just difficult to see where it's going,
And I could see it lasting a loooooon time. Oddly the Hisoka and Chrollo fight....didn't do much for me, wasn't a fan of how it played out even though it's appropriate for the series.

Dasei 67 Percent - this is just fun dumb comedy. Don't know of anyone is reading it. Shimimaru is a fav artist for....reasons, even in a real manga.

Tokyo Ghoul - talked about this plenty. Highly recommend it, probably forget the anime.

Houseki no Kuni - this thing really just moves. I guess the rapid pacing could be a turnoff for some, but the story just doesn't feel like it's meant to be incredibly long. I feel like it may not even take that much longer to end, though that could easily change. While the manga is hard to accept after the gorgeous anime, especially without the color that does so much for it, it does have it's own charm.

JoJolion - this really needs to go somewhere. As it continues to progress, I'm starting to feel like it'll be difficult for this not to end up as one of the weakest Parts.

Real Account - after a fairly interesting start this ended up being hilariously bad. I guess this is how some people feel about Future Diary? This will surely sit comfortably in my ranking for bottom 10 for a good long time.

Magical Girl Apocalypse - by contrast I was expecting this one to be a so bad it's good kind of thing, and it started out with that being very possible, but man this got legit. Maybe the whiplash of settings and enormous twists might he a bit too much for people, but I was right at home.

On the queue - MHA Vigilantes, One Piece, OPM, Golden Kamuy.

Hold up. Now I'm not caught up, it's been a while and the last Arc I read was Blue Hawaii, or as I like to call it, Zombie Highway Star. So I should have a sizeable chunk to get back to by now. But JoJolion is fantastic up to there. I'm not seeing how it could be even close to the weakest. I mean it isn't my favorite part by any means, that goes to Steel Ball Run, but the Stands are some of the most creative, the storyline lives up to the Bizarre name, and the fights are fantastic. Gappy uses some seriously badass Close Quarters Combat.

If you could elaborate on this a bit, I'd like to know. And if that answer is for me to go get caught up, then I'll shut up and get back to you on that once I've done so.

As for why... there's tons of creativity here, sure, but the overall narrative does nothing for me really. I'm not invested. I don't actually care about the characters, a sharp contrast to SBR. If we're talking pure fight creativity, sure, though a LOT of JoJolion fights involve running away.

I can kind of understand. The plot for me took a while for me to really get invested, and I still don't really get a lot of whats going on. I can also kind of get not likeing the characters, but the only one I really don't like is Joshu, the rest of the family is good, Gappy is weird but good, Yasuho is great. But yeah, comparing to SBR, they aren't even on the same level as Johnny or Gyro.

As for running away, I like it. Stakes are higher because I don't believe we have a healer of any sort really. Part 4 and 5 had Crazy D and Gold Experience, Part 6 had bullshit with Stone Free, and 7 had some bullshit with Hot Pants. And my memory could be failing right now, but I don't recall anything at all to heal in 8. So if they get messed up in a fight, it's a bit harder coming back. So making a run for it to find an advantage or get out of a particularly nasty situation is a nice change of pace.

I wonder if the old material no longer being about current trends hurts the show. Haven't given it a rewatch in years, but it did rely on a lot of references.

I probably missed 90% of the references (with the 10% I caught mostly being the frequent, blatant Haruhi ones) and it was still really good!

VA throat issues seem a little more than uncommon since I feel like I see some every year. I mean Id imagine its usually non-cancer for most since they probably just perform too much singing/VA work/etc

Unrelated note, but I beated ep4 of South Pole. The part with Kimaris Mom and dad was funny and the best scene so far.

Episode 5 was pretty predictable and mightve been the least good episode

I uh should probably not like anymore seiyuu newcomers...

She was my pick for the next big thing when I first heard her all the way back in One Week Friends and Plastic Memories. This explains her lack of big roles recently. She should have been pushed to the moon if not for her health :(

Should probably not like Sakamoto Maaya and Sawashiro Miyuki or they could end up with health issues in the future :(

I just finished Konohana Kitan and I thought it was excellent. The fox girls were cute and the slice-of-life inn moments were fun, but what really stood out to me was the spiritual elements woven into the stories. It was also impressive how emotional some of those episodes got. It basically nailed every mood it tried to create, whether it was silly hijinks or occasional sadness.

It's more just wasted potential and by the numbers. It technically covers the bare necessities so it works on a base level, but not more than that.

Like a good persona series would be one where each episode they focus on a non main character sl or something and put like feel good stuff and lessons or something in it. A show based on the game is almost certain to fail because of the format the game is in

The best thing they could do is more screen time for party interaction with minimal game plot. Like yeah you can do the basic bosses and stuff, but people want to see the characters hanging out and see the social link characters too. Like P4A would be tons more fun if it focused on the main cast hanging out more. At least the source had tons of hanging out so the anime used some of those scenes. P5 has almost no hanging out scenes so I can only imagine it easily has the worst anime of the Persona games

P5A intrigues me because I've never seen such a lazy attempt at an adaptation phoned in so hard.

P4 actually had unique writing, giving a personality and character traits to the MC. Though I hear Golden was pretty pointless.

P4A did an amazing job with Narukami. Giving him an actual personality and deadpan made some scenes so much better than they were in the game.

I didnt know how much gameplay would get generalized, but yeah 5 is better at dungeons, battles, etc. its just a shame it shit the bed with cast and party interaction

I like the P5 cast itself more but interaction yea I'll give you that
