while her case may well be fear of government spying, it's a good practice. there's countless examples of people who were stupid with their computer, gave someone access to it without realizing it, and that person's got access to their webcam.

at which point they're then blackmailed.

Thinking the FBI is spying on you through your webcam is dumb, but it is incredibly easy for someone in range to gain access to it, so covering it up isn't necessarily an act of pure paranoia. Nobody's going to get anything from my webcam except maybe me making an O-face, plus most of my neighbors seem technically inept so I cant be buggered.

No but I think its childs play for a phisher to come in and get access to those webcams, and taking a security precaution, while its something I personally don't do, is pretty far from "crazy" and calling her that only makes you sound stupid.
