Not exactly sure where people get the idea that you're not "allowed" to say it, as if something is legally preventing from doing so. You can say, but your present company might take offense to it. They might not. This goes with nearly every controversial word in the English language.

Now the question is what makes you want to say it so badly in the first place?

Ingroup/outgroup is a big part of understanding the dynamic. Although with the particular word, its history in multiple communities creates a bit more of a unique context.
