Sorry I misread your name and thought you were caution and used the topic as an excuse to make a dig at him since well, it seemed ironic for him to post this. But apparently I just can't read.

Anyway you can ignore those digs >_>
They don't apply to you.
Sorry.

I still maintain though that anxiety will be more normal and anti social behavior won't be. Recording my previous post:

A large number of people struggle with some form of anxiety, probably at least 25% of the population. It's not abnormal in itself to have generalized anxiety for example. More abnormal are specific anxiety anxiety disorders, such as agoraphobia, OCD, paranoid schizophrenia, etc. Since generalized anxiety is used as a catch all though more likely people don't have it and instead have one of these less common disorders.

Now as for anti social behavior, that's described more as a lack of empathy and no care for life or other people. Typically manipulation or outright destructive behavior is involved for the antisocial to get what they want. Few anxiety disorders overlap these since anxiety itself is often associated with empathy. But certain disorders are more commonly found with antisocial disorders, such as autism or aspergers for whatever reason. I'm not sure if there is actually any correlation between those, I think that's a big area of study these days.

Except in this particular case it's less full-blown stupidity and more everyone shuts down into their own personal bubble.

I prefer being in a personal bubble though. I don't like being around other people and their flaws, and I know they wouldn't like being around me and my flaws. It's win-win for both parties to stay separate and unattached.

Celebrating isn't the best word either, I really can't come up with a single word that succinctly describes what I and a lot of other people apparently have been noticing.

A big element to the whole thing too is that it's difficult to determine who has legitimate anti-social tendencies or behaviors, and who might just be a little introverted and either has a massive victim complex, or have blown their issues way out of proportion. Personally, and this is probably just a bit of cynicism on my part, I tend to look at people who feel the need to let others know about their every anxiety, panic, and meltdown aren't "genuine" - they're usually attention-starved in some way, and are more so going after that attention than they actually are suffering from social issues. There's a lot of overlap there too, though.

basically theyve made it a virtue to have something wrong with you. the more self diagnosed illnesses they can rattle off when they introduce themselves, the more virtuous they are perceived by the other people who do the same thing. it becomes a negative feedback loop.

kinda like how everyone on the left fell in love with rattling off "that person is homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, etc" while doing those weird hand motions Anita Sarqueesian used to do

The problem is that American society has become fundamentally broken, but to fully explain my thinking on that would take far too long.

The short answer is: think about how kids are raised these days. They only interact with other kids their own age for the most part, along with a bunch of shrill mainly female babysitters, daycare people, elementary school teachers, etc. By the time someone graduates from high school (IF they even make it that far, which where I grew up is anything but guaranteed), they have to spend the next 4-5 years at least undoing all of the social damage that was done to them during the K-12 education system.

We aren't socializing our children well. This is why teenagers are completely unbearable.

Pretty much, yes.

I more or less had to tell them I would stop openly expressing suicidal thoughts if I wanted my account to be unblocked.

I think we might eventually need to just embrace shyness (or more accurately, avoidant attachment styles) but if we do that we'll need to give up social customs that don't work anymore. Give up stuff like "oh you have to see your family on [holiday] because reasons". That kind of stuff is extremely stressful and it's all for sentimental reasons.

It would also be nice if society mutually agreed that small talk is garbage and that pure silence is totally okay. Silence is only awkward because we have the expectation to speak.
