if you don't have enough bass it will be impossible

you will distinctly hear one or the other - you won't be able to hear both words at your choosing from the same device.

I hear yanny, but having heard the pitch-shifted version to know where the L sounds exist timing-wise, I can hear them if I listen very intently for them.

Your last statement makes no sense whatsoever. Do you really think that everyone hears all frequencies equally? Of course that's a load of rubbish.

The first time I listened to it this morning, it was clear as day to me saying Laurel. I thought "who the fuck can even make Yanny out of this?" It's flat out saying Laurel.

I went back just now, watched the same video on the same device with no adjustment to audio or anything and now all I can hear is Yanny. I can't even come close to making out Laurel. What the fuck?!

I first heard Yanny but this morning I was able to hear both by sort of popping my ears or changing the way I was holding my phone.

If you focus on the higher pitched sound you hear yanny. If you listen closely to the lower notes, you hear laurel.
