Thought this was a real good video explaining the problem and motivations of the media today and how they thrive off mass shooters.

after every shooting I say the same thing. stop saying the name of the shooter. it should be illegal to report the name on the news. don't let them become famous. just call them "the shooter".

As said in the video "tragedy has become profitable". News, and specifically cable news networks, benefit off of exposing and showing the scumbag to the world. And especially if the perp had any type of political affiliation, on any side. Just to drive that divide for ratings.

that's fucked up. cause I happen to think that some of the reason if not the main reason they do this is to be famous. I always think that every shooting, somewhere in america, the next mass shooter is watching the news and getting inspired

Of course they do. The media never learned from Columbine and they still give these psychopaths the celebrity treatment. I don't care if it's CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or anything else, the media still hasn't learned to downplay and minimize these stories. And the prevalence of social media has rendered them irrelevant regardless

The media focused on the Parkland kids instead of the shooter, and the right started calling them terrorists and attacking them nonstop

@The_Great_Muta_22

Definitely agree with the video. This is what Ive been saying for a while now - with not only this, but other tragedies of the same caliber(unfair murders).

If we can agree on this, then we definitely have hope for the future going forward. It doesnt matter if our opinions on everything else differ - but THIS - this constant need to sensationalize on these types of events...is a huge piece of the puzzle. Certainly not the only piece, but a huge piece.

Good topic. This is something I think all of us can agree with.

@Caution999

I agree, and I'm bumping this to the hope that at least something can be agreed between people

Yep. Anything to get the attention away from actual arguments.
People just buying into the NRAs propaganda.

The most recent study on this sort of research said there is no data to support this theory. See here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/sltb.12366

So I am guessing this is a video that just shifts the blame on something else other than the lunatics that actually carry out these massacres?

I actually had a similar theory/question...

Since 2009 there has been more news about celebrity deaths, even though they've always died. The reason being the news outlets found how how profitable those stories are.

So my question is, are there more (school) shootings, or have there always been this many and they just report it more now for ratings?

and could this fear mongering be all made up to push agendas like arming teachers or banning guns? Like what if the [itanimulli] (backwards) were funding the news channels based on how many shootings they report, so they can take our guns and we can't fight back when they take over the world? Just spitballing, don't take it serious.

The media didn't make a huge fucking deal about the shooter's since-debunked white supremacist ties? They weren't talking non-stop about how he bought his gun 'legally?'

lol

That's the thing, News should be one of those categories in society that shouldn't be allowed to be a "For Profit" organization of any sort.

All News Orgs should be "Non-Profit" based and for the good of the Nation they serve along with present all sides of a situation.

If they lie, distort the truth in any way, they should be financially punished by the government.

We need real checks & balances on News Media outlets.

That's why we as society don't trust them, they're out for profit, political control, and personal gain instead of telling the truth to society and educating them.

News Orgs should have never been allowed to be a "For Profit" Business venture or owned by those seeking to make profit.
