You ever wonder how a movie studio hears something like this and doesn't just throw the guy out immediately?

Also, I'll freely admit to not knowing that Disney doesn't own Jungle Book, I just assumed it did.

Easy mistake to make. I thought Disney owned everything.

Well at least it has the self awareness to say "Witness the DARKEST telling"

They did get good people to voice the animals though I can't knock that

Rule of thumb, pre-20th century works are generally dark and gritty.

There's a bit more killing in it, but it's still a book for kids.

Apparently people liked the Jungle Book movie from a couple of years back.

I actually kinda hated that movie and it being so bad alone makes me interested in this one.

i haven't seen the previous jungle book movie but i heard it's a weird hybrid between the book and the animated movie. like, you're supposed to take it seriously and then suddenly you get "I WANT TO BE LIKE YOUHOU" and it feels totally out of place. so yeah, if that's true and this movie is going to be more faithful to the book, that definitely sounds like an improvement.

Yeah that's the meat of my grief with it. Although singing Christopher Walken is far from the only time that occurs.

That and there's a too much tell not enough show in it for my tastes. Though probably the main reason that last part is so much of an issue the kid they got to play Mowgli in it was a terrible actor and obnoxious.

I don't know, maybe I just like movies pretty easy.

It got rave reviews and an oscar win for visual effects lol.

Anyway this movie looks pretty good. Andy Serkis has a lot of potential as a director.

I thought I was losing my mind when this trailer went up on youtube last night. Jungle Book was a pretty big hit and I heard they confirmed a sequel, so I assumed this was it, but then they were just telling the same story over again...?

The funny thing is they actually completed filming in early 2015 and wanted to have it out for Thanksgiving 2016 but had to push it back two years after Disney beat them to the punch. So now we'll get to watch live action Jungle Books three times in six years, hooorah.

definitely not the case. it's barely any more dark or gritty than the disney film.

the bolded part is accurate, or at least I agree with feeling that way when I watched it. but it was more of a feeling of 'oh they tried to make some of the events more accurate and follow the exact plot of the book' and less to do with being taken seriously or not. though, once again, I can only speak for myself here.
