Ghost in the Shell
Akira I don't have the patience for a series, but are there any other films of this caliber that are worth checking out? I really enjoy that cyberpunk aesthetic that, unbeknownst to me at the time, basically inspired all of my favorite JRPGs from the late 90s. --- "A more mature answer than I expected."~ Jakyl25 "Sephy's point is right."~ Inviso ... Unfortunately those are the king's of that particular subgenre in the anime film realm, so you only go down from there. If you want something close to that era that has a future vibe though not "punk", I strongly reccomend Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis.

It doesn't have to necessarily be cyberpunk. Just a solid adult movie that doesn't feel like Miyazaki.

I was thinking either Redline or Sword of the Stranger when I saw the topic last night (but didn't post for some reason).
I'm also a huge fan of A Silent Voice so I can't not recommend it, but I'm also not sure it's well-suited to your tastes based on the little I know about them. And actually I didn't notice this part last night, but if you liked Grave of the Fireflies you may want to consider In This Corner of the World. I never saw the former so I can't personally verify anything, but the two get compared a lot, and I did quite like In This Corner of the World. --- Congratulations to BK_Sheikah00, this year's guru to achieve contest enlightenment! ...
