I don't see it that way at all. It's good that the new protagonist can have their own distinctive mechanics in order to differentiate it from the games starring Link. If it's well received, it could be the start of a new series, and the idea could be expanded even more.
I think it's kinda cool that as the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, Zelda's strengths rely on her using magic to approach situations strategically and using the environment to her advantage, rather than through direct combat.
