I don't mind NFL players protesting. I just feel they should do it on their own time. on that field they are representing their team and the NFL as a whole. and they are paid very well to do so.

me personally if I ran things i'd just make it a hefty fine. its not like players in the pasty haven't willingly taken a fine if they really believed in something. and it would make more of a statement that they where willing to lose money to protest.

Those poor oppressed athletes. Poor guys can barely afford their mansions and $800,000 cars.

Sorry but these owners run a business. And like any other business, if you effecting profit margins you can be censored and reprimanded or released entirely. You claim it's an American right to protest. Sure it is... but on the job in your workplace you don't have that inherent right.

Because that totally happens with the NFL.

I've seen all out of people say they had quit watching NFL on the internet but few said why but if not for this reason well the timing makes it seem that way.

Though I know several did say they quit watching because they are getting tired of rule changes.

Which that had an affect too I think they revoked the rule about no endzone celebration I believe

Too little, too late. The NFL already lost the fans this is supposed to appease. Now their favorite sport is mental gymnastics.

I watch the NFL now more than ever and couldn't care less about this. I just think its funny that people cant get over a business doing what they think is best for their brand. But yeah a ton of rednecks watch the NFL and will quit watching over you disrespecting their country. They still have college football after all even though they never went

The opposite happened last season. They loosened the rule on excessive celebration.

I guess fake respect is better then no respect for a President that firmly believes it is all about him, when someone decides to kneel to protest something. Respect because of some possible punishment isn't in any way respect. It is just someone trying to avoid problems. They are only respecting the possible punishment and not the person demanding it.

I never saw it as respecting the president. its supposed to be respecting the country. not the military (well them partially, but more so the military of the past that helped shape this country), not the president, not congress. the country. thats how I always looked at it anyways.

Letting them stay in the locker room seems like a fair compromise, although I'm sure you're going to have whole teams sitting out and then shit is going to change again.

People dont want the nfl or sports in general to be politicized but probably watch the olympics without saying a word.

Us boycotting moscow, russia boycotting la, two koreas marching as one...highly political.

You're kinda assuming there's much overlap between domestic sports viewership and the Olympics. Otherwise that's government-to-government level stuff, which isn't the same thing as attacking your home nation.

What you say is true, it is about respecting the country and the military. Sadly our current president sees not standing for the national anthem as directly disrespectful of him. Standing for the anthem has always been voluntary. The rules made for showing respect for the anthem and the treatment of our flag, were made to let people know how that should be done. They weren't meant to be a legal requirement, as some people seem to think they are.
