Adventure is predominantly characterized by going to different locales and having puzzles to solve. You don't typically have combat in adventure games, at least no combat mechanics so when you click with the sword to start the fight as Alexander in KQ6, it just starts a cutscene and you aren't required to do anything at that point. Action Adventure blends the puzzle solving part of Adventure games with combat from action games such as Legend of Zelda. Every game in the Zelda series is Action Adventure except HW which is straight action / hack-n-slash.
