There's police sponsored propaganda imploring citizens to no longer own knifes, including safe drop off boxes where you can turn in your knives for safe disposal, with no repercussions lol.

Imagine being looked down on for carrying a pocket knife lol. Even my girlfriend carries a pocket knife in her bag just because they're handy to have.

I got called out once for paring my nails with a pocket knife in a building that had a sign out front that said "No Weapons". It was one of those slender three blade knives, none of them were particularly menacing, and it's funny because I had never really thought of it as a weapon before, just a utility tool

My biggest pet peeve with British English is that they call aluminum "aluminium".

Like, where's that extra I coming from. It just seems so unnecessary.

You mean English - language from England.

This stuck in my mind and I couldn't work out why.

Look at the periodic table of elements and you'll notice naming conventions. A lot of those elements end with an "ium". Chances are, when naming aluminium they were thinking along the same lines.

It's fun for those times you want to zoom about but after coming back to the UK I really miss having one hand for coffee and the other hand for driving.

I mean, not like we don't do that anyway as is. >.>

Ok let's be honest

Do you ever buy tea at a cafe and take it away in a plastic cup

They never make it right

It never tastes right

It always tastes like hot water with a vague bit of tea flavour, no matter how long you leave the tea bag in

This is true. The only show that started airing this decade I can name in which Ive actually taken time to sit down & watch through the entirety of was Twin Peaks: The Return, and that was a continuation of a show from 1990.

Fucking ughhh. It's no wonder curry is so popular in the UK, they're used to eating bland garbage like steamed fish and blood pudding and stuff, so they probably fucking loved when immigrants brought over food that was actually tasty lol.

One of my least favorite things is how they call tennis shoes/sneakers "trainers".

what the fuck

When jogging/playing tennis, how much sneaking around do you really do?

Meanwhile, you are actually training.

I always assumed they were called "sneakers" because "sneak" sounds sort of like an onomatopoeia for the sound your shoes make on a gym floor when you're playing, like, basketball. I suppose "sneakers" really isn't a much better term at all, but tbf I can't honestly recall the last time I heard someone refer to shoes as such.

Pretty sure they were called sneakers in contrast to hard sole shoes.

Some of the stuff I mentioned probably isn't a meal by itself but often light snack or breakfast food I admit, yeah

But the curries were made by the indians and/or inspired by them?

It's like if American claimed Chinese food, Mexican and maybe even pizza.

Just curious, I have no issue with curries being considered british food.

Oh man I fucking knew someone was gonna come in and claim curry as a fucking British food lol.
Calling chicken tikka masala British is like calling burritos American. The geographical location of a dish's origin doesn't change the ethnic origins of it. Sure it was created in England. By an Indian chef using traditionally Indian ingredients in a traditionally Indian cuisine style of cooking.

Not to fucking mention just throwing a catch-all net over all curries is ignorant AF too. The difference between Indian curries, Thai curries, Japanese curries, etc... is insanely vast. It's like saying "cookies are French".

So no, curry doesn't count as British food lol.

I mean, I probably should have said "British style" curries, but I presumed it was a given. They very much don't have our style in India etc.

I think it is perfectly fine to include a countries variants on a dish as their own. America could include their own styles as an "American dish".

But feel free to not include them if you want, I guess.
