There was a time when pre-ordering made sense. I remember not having one of the Call of Duty games on release. Now, I can walk into a game store and pick up a copy of whatever game on release. And if for whatever reason it's not in, then theres digital.

Sometimes the pre-order bonuses are interesting.

Not to sound like a friggin commercial or anything, but as an Amazon Prime member every game I've preordered so far has been 20% off plus free shipping. Since I buy so many games this way it easily pays for itself.

The 20% off is a good deal. The digital bonuses that come with games now, I'm just not into. I guess I'm just getting old. When I pre-ordered it was to guarantee a game thats known to sell out. But pre-ordering to save money I'm all for it.

I only preorder now if 1) I'm 100% sure I'll buy the game anyway and 2) it's cheaper or has another good enough bonus.

I just preordered Shadow of the Tomb Raider a few weeks back. GreenManGaming had it for 25% off any version, so I could essentially buy the game and DLC for cheaper than I'll see for quite a long time. I loved Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. There's no way I wasn't going to get this game.

The only reason I could think of would be to make sure you get a game beforei ts sold out.. But I don't know about you guys, but I've never, not a single time, been unable to get a newly released game because it was sold out.

I don't buy nearly enough games for that to be of much value. The games I get tend to be ones that you can play for a very, very, very long time. Pokemon games (Most of mine have their in-game play time maxed out at 999 hrs.), Elder Scrolls, Disgaea, Binding of Isaac.. Yeah.

That and if I'm planning on buying a game day one anyway making a pre order saves me having to go into a store to buy it. At times I get the game delivered early and the game is often cheaper online too.

In my case I happen to live in a county in which there is not a single video game store.. The easiest way for me to get games is buying them online, and if I want them on release it needs to be a pre-order..

I bought the PS4 version of Dragon Quest 11 last month and it also came with a digital bonus vest armor that gives your guys +10% gold or something like that. I prefer bonuses like these over super strong gear that breaks the early game. To me stuff like that just makes it less fun.

That was indeed a debacle but you can't really compare a con job crack team to a huge company with a good reputation (great example I just posted being Dragon Quest 11).

What about Watch Dogs, Diablo 3, SimCity, Arkham Knight, Battlefront 2? No Man's Sky was just one of the bigger and more recent examples. There's plenty of other ones. Yet it seems like people simply don't learn.

Or how about buying Early Access games that aren't completed the way you want, because that's basically the same thing.

I think the last time I pre-ordered a game was for the first blazblue. It came with an art book and a cd that I still have at my parents house.

I preordered, because at the time, I lived in a smaller town, and the game is sorta niche.

Most of my games I buy now are digital, so really no need to pre-order

In the cases of like WoW and other MMOs you get early access to some things with digital preorders.

Preordering collectors editions also are nice if you want to collect that stuff
