Japan writes "rice/grain nation"
Think about what that says about how each respective nation views us As you know, the whole region uses Chinese script as a traditional writing method --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Fun fact: Korea originally wrote 'rice country' to refer to America as well.
The change is a recent one, around the 70s or such. --- Link meets Fire Emblem in CYOA: Tales of Elibe! Come read, and find out what happens! Click below! https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/468480-fire-emblem/76125431 ... Copied to Clipboard!

I agree. It says Korea doesn't think America is important but it looks superficially good, while Japan thinks America is vital to their life.

Huh... I guess I never thought about it lol. America would be miguk, which mi would be the beautiful part. When Koreans refer to a beautiful lady, she'd be called a mi-in, where in is a person in Chinese character. I wonder what the history behind it is, though America definitely lent Korea a big helping hand throughout history

(migu) has little to do with the chinese thinking "oh well america is just beautiful so lets call it that" but rather , in this case, is an abbreviation for the chinese word for america, (Ymilji), which phonetically sounds like "america".
it's like the chinese word for germany, which is (dgu), literally translating to "moral country." the chinese didn't have some innate reason to believe that germany is moral, but rather that , in this case, is short for the chinese word for "Deutsch", (dyzh), which is phonetic. hth (hope this helps) --- bob the buster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFNtqC0ETqo ...
