When Bethesda announced Fallout 76 with a teaser trailer this morning, promising more information at E3, it was easy to assume that the new game would be a traditional single-player role-playing game. But Fallout 76 is in fact an online survival RPG thats heavily inspired by games like DayZ and Rust, according to three people familiar with the project.

Well, count me out if this is true. Not really interested in a multiplayer Fallout like that. Maybe I'll give it a shot at some point but I'm not terribly excited if it really is that.

Doesn't mean I'm interested or would buy it tho. I don't do online and outside of liking Morrowind during release and FO:NV (which was Obsidian) I'm not even a fan of Bethesda and their rpg's.

The article says this;

It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs such as Skyrim. It will also feature base-building - just like 2015's Fallout 4 - and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources.

One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online "service" games, but that's the core outline.

yeah sorry, but that doesn't convince me. i'm gonna hold out for an actual verified source.

also i find it odd that everyone's saying it's gonna be online multiplayer, yet they are also saying it's going to be built from the same engine and assets as 4 like NV was with 3, which would mean the Creation Engine, which everyone is also saying can't handle multiplayer. that just plain doesn't add up.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Jason Schreier is never wrong about this stuff.

But I think it will have more single player elements than people expect. It just won't be like a Bethesda game.
