Are they pronounced the same? Aren't they pronounced like "Ben" and "Dan"? Or are those two pronounced the same too?
Also: "Ban Ben!". Does that sound like the same word twice?

"E" and "a" sound like "i" in "pin"
"N" sounds like "n" in "pin"

In American English, they are either identical or very close, much like "cot" and "caught", or "or" and "are".
Similarly, is devouring the the other vowels, and nobody seems to notice.

than has an A sound like in "band" but slightly more E-ish
