Its not politics and religion that divide people, its people that divide people. Everyone thinks their opinion/belief is correct and instead of trying to coexist with people who think differently, everyone tries to force their beliefs on each other.

Politics is just a word given to our natural tendency to argue and separate into groups over it.

No one "invented" it, and there is no alternate timeline where it wouldn't exist.

Sex slavery is objectively a worse concept than politics.

Politics... is actually essential for a society to function. In its truest sense, it is the discussion and debate between viewpoints as to how best to take society. Yes, greed and corruption fester it, but it is still essential. If you don't like those negative aspects, then fight against them.

As for religion, it was useful in the old days for answers to unanswerable questions, but as we have grown as a society, especially with the amount of communication we've been able to establish across the planet, we find that there's less of a need to rely on an organization based on doling out easy faith-based answers.

That's not to say we should abandon spiritualism or our sense that there's something greater out there, but there's been less a need for an organization of it.
