What a stupid word. It looks like something that should be graded incorrect on some third grader's spelling test.

Would you prefer longer stuff like "from the government" or something like "governy"?

How about "Governatorial"? It is at least consistent with the word it's describing.

It seem the words referring to government come from an ancient language where it doesn't matter if you use "b" or "v". English wasn't invented as a solid piece made yesterday for modern use only.

In Spanish, "government" is "gobierno". They have some common root in the past.

But that's stupid. You wouldn't say "Gubernor", so it makes no sense to butcher it when describing their duties.

Maybe in an ancient root language you would. It stuck as part of some words.

Fine. For now on I'll just use Gubernor indiscriminately because "in some ancient language it might have been spelled that way".

It's almost as if it originates from another language, and derivative words have been uodated through common use and left it behind.

Or something like that.
