And it gave birth to really awesome side stuff that expanded on those concepts. The sequel trilogy has really nothing interesting going on with it. Kylo Ren is the only cool thing imo. First Order and Starkiller is literally just Empire 2.0 and Death Star 3.0 which we've seen for 3 movies beforehand. The casino planet is boring as shit, the red salt/snow planet is okay but they don't do much with it, and Luke only does 1 cool thing so far ~~and it just turns out to be a hologram which kills him. The dialogue and some of the acting is cringe, some of the CGI hasn't aged well, Jar Jar, Anakin, etc. But to me they're still vastly more interesting additions to Star Wars cannon than 7 and 8. TFA really wasn't bad, I was feeling pretty positive after it came out. But it set a lot of interesting things up that TLJ just knocked down and peed on. Both well made movies, but the plot and story direction in TLJ was so bad it actually brings down TFA along with it. If TFA isn't setting up an interesting trilogy then the criticisms against it become more valid and damning.
