Personally, I dont like cowardice. I like a person to stand up for what they believe in. At least sit on the sidelines if theyre too afraid to admit the truth. But to switch their opinion to the opposite of what they do only to be accepted and fit in? Thats pretty shitty. I try not to associate with people like that.

Cowards are often backstabbers. That makes them a liability.

I dont change my opinion when its convenient but I do often bait arguments I know I cant win just so someone else with better argumentative skills than me will try to jump in and win. >_>

I think people who refuse to change their opinions in the face of ample reason to change their opinions are idiots. Does that count as changing because it's convenient?

I sometimes pretend to have a different opinion, usually to avoid discussions with people that I know it won't be worth it discussing with. I think this level of diplomatic action is fine.

It depends on the strength of the argument the person is presented. If I think a person is wrong but facing weak arguments I would respect them more for catching those flaws but continuing to be wrong than if they fail to catch the flaws.

You're wrongly assuming that it's a matter of not wanting to stand up for their opinions instead of not actually believing that strongly in something. Most people barely have an opinion on a lot of subjects -- because there are far too many subjects out there -- and those opinions tend to be weak since they're not based on much (or, if they're partisan, they let others make up their minds for them so their default opinion falls on party lines but may quickly falter when pressed on the issue)

Plus a lot of people take an opinion when they just have a cursory knowledge of the subject -- like hearing a headline -- and then that opinion may change as they learn more. (Or, realistically, they don't bother learning more or correcting their opinion, which is why "Hands up, don't shoot" is still big for BLM propaganda despite even Eric Holder acknowledging that Mike Brown went for the officer's gun)

I think it depends why somebody changed their opinion. If it was because they were uninformed previously or even just feel differently about something they already understood fully, I think it's fair to let people adjust their stance and not shame them for it. I have more respect for those who are willing to admit they were wrong, especially if they really dug in their heels. Ignoramuses who just get worked up and irrational ruin everything.

I have a lot of free time to think, so my beliefs are fairly constant and I always support them with logic - whether or not anyone agrees with my opinions is beside the point, as all I expect is for others to accept my reasoning and agree to disagree. The great irony is that I'm a very emotional person, I just respect facts, laws, statistics, etc. more than empathy as a decision-making tool. That doesn't make me better than somebody who wears their heart on their sleeve (and is led around by it), but in my experience we're largely incompatible with one-another because I am not extended the same courtesy I provide. It's really fun when the latter description applies to my mom...

The internet plays a huge role in cowardice. Anything you say online, you need to be willing to say to a person's face. People too afraid to admit they were wrong are also cowards, as well as those who change their opinions to suit their company. There's nothing to respect about sycophants. They're selfish and spineless. Ultimately though, beliefs are fluid. Circumstances change and what seemed cemented at one time may not be anymore. All that's important is being honest with yourself and being able to justify any views you hold and explain why you changed your mind.

I believe your thoughts on this are pretty good, but if everyone else disagrees with you I'll change my opinion to suit them.

So no, your opinions now suck!
