Well, that didn't last long, 2 weeks, but I got my first paycheck today.

I was leaving for work at 1pm and returning after midnight (and in 3 weeks 5 hours of overtime become mandatory). For that, I got.......$300 after taxes....for my first week.

I bounced around trying to figure out a sleep schedule that worked etc, but basically ended up staying up till 3 am or so, and sleeping in till 10-11am. Gave me time to eat dinner when I got home, and settle down (I tried going to sleep earlier but would just toss and turn for hours). That barely gave me time to go to lunch/breakfast before work, hit the store maybe, or do a few things. When another hour was added to each day, it would have been even worse.

I was considering quitting already because the incentive program that actually made it possible to make $70k+ at the job, seemed.....fishy. Nobody new about it, and until yesterday it looked like it had been canceled. I was informed yesterday that it was still in effect!! I was happy, and like ok this is going to work out then.

But....on further review, I realized that if NOBODY knew about the incentive program actually being in effect, it really didn't matter if it was...because nobody was making 3x their base pay from it (if you go from making $300 a week to $900 a week.....I'm pretty sure you will know why.)

I was planing on taking advantage of the incentive program/overtime (unlimited currently) and my...tendency to do extremely well at every job I have ever done), and work a 60 hour week.

Factoring everything in, that would have netted me somewhere between $70k-$100k a year...which made sense to me.

On the other hand the base pay is $12 an hour lol. I would NOT work 60 hour weeks to get $12 an hour and $18 for the last 20. That would be insane. The question was then, should I gamble 3-4 months of my time/effort for the chance to actually make what I can get with other jobs for sure....and for less hours?

The answer was easy at that point. Even as a teacher (which admittingly I do spend over 10 hours a day when teaching...but I also have FAR more days off) I would make $50k + (I get an extra $5k from my masters degree). I can easily qualify for state jobs that pay 90k+ though and are 40 hours straight up, with good benefits etc. Just not exactly the type of job I want.

So blah, but at least I realized it quickly lol. If it hadn't been for nobody knowing about the incentive program, I would have probably spent 3-4 months there before discovering that you really can't make that much and the incentive program is really just a pipe dream.

Now I need to decide what I want to do for work again/look for a job *sigh*.
