If you were unfamiliar with the book..I can see why it would be hard to get into.

Also Fellowship > Return of the King > Two Towers

Yes the movie.

That or the first half is rushed. Like here comes Arwyn and she has magic that can call horses?. You have to take a lot is..let's explain The Wringwraiths once and then show them as spectres that pierce frodo.

I think I'm just being picky.

Decades.

I like that he made the female characters stronger..Arwyn is just a bride to be. Elrond conjures the water in the book..

Stuff like Tom Bombadil wouldn't have made sense in the movie.

Well, we're already told that elves have magic powers. It's true that the movies don't explain as much as the books, but that's because the movies and the books aren't related. The only similarity is that some characters and places across them share names.

Reminds me of the birds at the end of The Hobbit, most of my friends went (so why they didn't they use them from the beginning). I got pissed when the movie couldn't even explain it.

The Nazghuls could probably take them.

I think he's there to explain the ring doesn't have influence on everyone..but yeah that part is weird.

Also let's take several pages describing scenery.

It's not explained in the movies and not very well explained in the books, but essentially the biggest argument against it IMO is the Ring itself. The more powerful someone is, the more tempted they will be. This is why Hobbits are so resilient, they have no great ambitions to feed. The Eagles are very powerful and would likely be tempted by the Ring. That, and Sauron would see them coming and just shoot them.

Interesting.

There's that, and there's also that they're actually servants of a god with their own mission. So they're busy doing stuff. Gwaihir saved Gandalf because he was passing by and owed him a favor or something like that. They're not just Gandalf's pets at least.

I've had a special interest in Tom Bombadil for a while there are a bunch of interesting essays about him.

this one is cool:

That first one was way too much for 5:45 in the morning.

I'll read the second one later. I need to copy it to a word document because of that background.
