the G group was supposed to be about the richest and most developed nations of the world....but Russia was in before they kiccked her out but not China, Spain, South Korea, Australia all of them are more developed than Russia when combining the size of their economy and their GDP per capita.

Russia is the most overrated country in the world..they just have nukes and tanks but their economy is Smaller than South Korea, Spain or Australia and Russia also has the same GDP per capita as Mexico

Because Russia was invited in while the USSR was collapsing, and the idea was that pulling them into stronger ties with the heavily capitalist powers of the West might help accelerate their own transformation and keep them from backsliding.

China wasn't invited in because it's not just about economics.

But even if it was, China wasn't the global economic powerhouse you think of it being today in the 80s/early 90s. A lot of its stratospheric growth took place in the mid-90s and into the 2000s. And at the time Russia joined the G8, it actually did "outrank" China in terms of economy as judged by most common metrics.

Spain hasnt been a world power since like the 17th/18th century, and right now is one of the weaker economies in Europe.
The other three do have arguements of being a g8 country
