Well, few reasons.

1) I had a Sega Genesis as a little kid so I didn't play the original Metroids, but I thought Samus was cool in the original Smash on N64 and then when I got a Gamecube, I totally fell in love with Metroid Prime. Ridley is one of my favorite Nintendo characters

2) I've always loved playing villains in Smash and there's a dire lack of them; Ridley always seemed like a dream scenario

3) Ridley himself had been put off/dismissed for so long that I truly gave up on it ever happening, so the slow-burn of the reveal just totally got me. I saw it was Metroid, I saw Samus leading the pack, and even when Mario and Mega Man got wrecked by someone clearly with Ridley's silhouette, I honestly still thought Sakurai was trolling until "Ridley hits the big time!" actually appeared on screen

It also just brought me back to being in the high school computer lab on my lunch, checking the Brawl Dojo, just hoping and praying for Ridley. Dude has been my most wanted newcomer for like... over a decade, by that measure.

Not like Ive thought about it daily, hell, Id given up on it entirely, but it brings me back to how excited I wouldve been then.

It looks REALLY hard to land that sweet spot, but Im not a pro so maybe not.

I agree it either needs a small sweet spot or a damage nerf though.

Just from a cursory glance Ridley looks miles stronger than Charizard. And I don't know how many jumps he has, but his Up-B alone gives him insane recovery.

Honestly I'm not a competitive Smash player so I don't really care how strong he is. Tiers don't really seem to come into play unless everyone's all super skilled. I've been wrecking my friends with Ganondorf's garbage ass for years.

Lmao no. Just because your friends shouldn't quit their day job doesn't mean you have to be super skilled. Tiers (more importantly, match ups) matter to any semi-competent player.

This is basically a pretentious way of saying exactly what I just said

Casual fun play with friends will 99% of the time be determined by who is good at the game. Once youre playing a little more seriously tiers come into play, but only then. I wasnt saying they only matter to world champs, just not your average Smash session.
