I had a very positive outlook of Sony before E3. Then when I found out they're literally blocking puddle from playing Fortnite on Switch, my opinion of them turned to shit.

I'm sure it's some bullshit way Forntnite had to be coded, not necessarily a deliberate attempt to block it.

My guess is Fortnite accounts are placed into one of two categories: PC/Xbox/Switch or PS4. Since PSN will not cross-communicate with Windows or XBL, a "PS4" Fortnite account is basically locked out of PC/X1/Switch.

Epic would have to code some kind of account transfer middleman software to allow you to use the same progress across those two categories.

It's really not any different than complaining that you can't access your PS4 Dark Souls character on Xbox One.

People are getting mad at Sony, but the issue is pretty obviously the fact that Epic didn't code a way to have the same account progress across two different server blocks.

No,they allowed cross platform accidentally with Xbox one (Epic), and SONY told them to stop. This is a result of Sony, and no one else to blame.

Epic has to use different servers for Sony. Just like how console gaming has been up to this generation. Different servers for different online systems.

I think it's a stupid strategy on Sony's part, but the inability to use PS4 progression on a non-PS4 console is because there's no account communication between the two different server platforms. There's nothing stopping Epic from coding a transfer system from PS4 to "PC" servers (PC/X1/Switch) and vice versa.

Square Enix had to jump through a huge amount of bullshit to get FF11 on Xbox 360 for basically the same reason. Xbox Live didn't allow communication with non-XBL online servers, so Square had to create an entirely new online service for Xbox 360 using their FF11 launcher software, which technically bypassed XBL and allowed communication with PC and PS2 players.
