So many people crying over some irrelevant shit.

Jeez, why can't we all just be happy we're getting another Smash Bros game?
I mean, I sure can't wait to get my hands on the game in December.

Smash boards tend to become cesspools of fanboyism and stupidity. Having any sort of concrete information on the game only makes that worse, as people start speculating rampantly and raging over anything confirmed that doesn't fit with their specific vision for the game.

Before Brawl came out, I checked out the boards to see what people thought about the game, and it was one of the most toxic boards I've seen on this site. I think it's some sort of combination of popularity mixed with everyone thinking they're really good.

Haha. Zeus has said that to me before. But I know Garg. He always gets into arguments. Before I was here, I was on a lot of boards for switch games. He got mad when somebody made a topic that was already made. They search for the topic using a different word. It happened a couple times. He was freaking out. And he pretty much argued with everybody on like everything all the time...

I remember the pre-release Brawl days, it really was toxic back then but I think the situation is kinda worse now.

Yes there are still a lot of people who do that.
Melee is a good game but people really need to move on from bashing the new games just because "it's not like Melee".

I think it was because melee was good for competitive and Brawl was more for fun and casual play. They had talked about this not to long ago after that list for most disappointing games or whatever...

Yeah I can definitely see why some people could've been disappointed in Brawl after playing Melee for so many years before.
I kinda was as well but I eventually adapted to it because I still loved the franchise.

Brawl is still a solid game in other ways though. The Subspace Emissary is still a great singleplayer mode and I really hope they can make something similar in Ultimate.

Smash 4 kinda lacked in the singleplayer department so I really hope they make up for it in this new game.

It does look a lot like Smash 4 but idk how much they can change the art style and still make it look good. Plus, Smash 4 had a lot of missing features so there is a lot than can still be added.

No not literally literally a dumpster fire, but there is so much unwarranted rage on that board it's ridiculous.
You can't have a proper discussion without people claiming it's a port and this game has no new features and it looks exactly like Smash 4.

Nintendo really should make new IPs though. Sad thing is that Nintendo used to be known for being THE company that regularly made lots of new successful IPs.

I kinda hope Smash Ultimate is the last Smash Bros so the series can finally rest.
Though six games in a span of twenty years isn't really that bad in comparison to other franchises like Mario or Call of Duty or Battlefield.

I mean, how much can they really change? Engine tweaks, graphical upgrades, and a few new characters and stages are all fighting game sequels ever really provide. I'm kind of expecting this to be the last Smash anyway, which is why the roster consists of every prior character, but you really can't expect them to reinvent the wheel every time. That's just not how series work.

The Direct literally opened with a brand new IP that's nothing like anything else in Nintendo's repertoire.

Even Mario isn't particularly bad if you split up the different genres of game within the franchise. 3D Marios are completely different games from Mario Kart, so lumping them together doesn't make much sense. Do that, and you get:

3D Mario: 7 in 22 years
2D Mario: 13 in 33 years (counting Mario Maker, which is debatable)
Mario Kart: 9 in 26 years (counting MK8 Deluxe, also debatable)
Mario Golf: 5 in 27 years
Mario Party: Lol too many this one's bad
Mario Tennis: 6 in 18 years (counting the one that comes out next week)
Paper Mario: 5.5 in 18 years, including a couple major gameplay shifts
Mario & Luigi: 4.5 in 15 years

And so on. Collectively, it's a huge number of games, but a lot of them are very different from each other. If you look only at similar games, they're actually spaced out pretty well, for the most part. It just seems like more because Mario's been such a consistent figure in the industry for so long.

My position was always that scaling him down to an appropriate Smash size would look silly. That position hasn't changed.

My position was always that he was the same height as Samus in Metroid 1, and that him being the same size as Bowser would be appropriate. That position hasn't changed.

One game per generation/console is honestly as fair as it gets.

That said, where's our fucking Animal Crossing reveal? Bethesda teased games thay won't even be in this generation. Nintendo needs to take some notes.

But he looked stupid in Metroid 1. Everyone looked stupid in Metroid 1. It was a NES game and it couldn't handle larger sprites than that.

He would, but he wouldn't look intimidating. Tiny dragons still look cool, but far more cute than anything else. In MP3, Samus literally climbs into Ridley's mouth to shoot down his throat. He's very obviously a threat to her there. Here? Eh. He's just an awkward size now.

I very much disagree. The best thing about Nintendo's E3 presentations is that they haven't jumped on the bandwagon of filling their presentation with stuff that won't see the light of day for years to come. Announce a few things a couple years in advance? Sure. But Nintendo's presentation this year basically said "you'll be able to enjoy most or all of these games before our next E3 presentation," and that's awesome and I don't want that to change.
