That kind of sucks. I just hope he doesn't end up somewhere like LA or NY. As a small-market fan, I hate these big market teams that can do a shit job of running their team and then just try to pull big free agents. Well, I guess if it's a trade that softens the blow a bit, but I'm sure teams will only trade for him if they are assured he'll resign, so that favors the big markets.

He said he prefers to go to LA or NY

Mostly it's the talk of LeBron and Paul George going to the Lakers that annoys me

Kawhi and PG can go for all I care but LeBron's better than that, right? That would be such a fucking lame move, way worse than when he went to Miami

Lebron lives in LA, his kids go to school in LA, and he has literally always said he would love to play for the Lakers one day.

He's also said he wants to finish his career in Cleveland and that he'd love to have the whole banana boat crew on one NBA team. He says lots of things, so many that they can't possibly all happen, so I'd take him saying he'd play with the Lakers with a grain of salt. I'm sure they'll be a finalist though

Man tell me about it, its terrible. Ive aleast thought wed be immune to the small market issues cause of the championships and Pop but I guess that luck runs out eventually.

Hell end up in LA with LeBron most likely, I dont think the league will let Paul George go there in addition but fuck knows at this point

Thing is, if Pop and RC Buford were bastards they would do him dirty and send him to Sacramento or somewhere like that for the #2 pick. Assuming sac are dumb enough to lose a top 5 pick for a 1 year rental

It would make much more sense for them to trade him to NY. Different conferences and Porzingis is way more attractive than anything the Lakers could offer. Though I doubt the Knicks would part with him and beyond that they don't really have much else. Lakers probably could provide a better package overall, but no one guy who really excites you.

How often do two superstars get swapped in the NBA? Can't really think of any recent examples.

Kyrie for Isiah? Or Paul George for Oladipo? Do those count?

Those are the two that came to mind for me, but Isaiah was damaged goods and he only had basically one great year. The Oladipo trade was laughed at at the time; he made a big improvement this year but I don't know if he's superstar level yet

After the Cavs got totally screwed in the Kyrie trade Im sure the Spurs are just thrilled to be in the same position now lol. Honestly they might be better off calling his bluff and if he turns down a super max in free agency just blow the damn thing up and rebuild.

If he gets traded then can't his new team give him a supermax? But I think it would have to be a year later instead of this summer

You can make more money off the court than on it. And it seemed like the spurs werent offering the supermax or else I really dont think hed want out as bad as he does

Theres just something about the purple and gold, boys. Everybody wants to be a laker, whether they want to admit it or not.

I was born in LA and have always been a Laker, a Ram, and my family is dodger fans but I said fuck that and went win the angels as a kid (angels in the outfield ftw)

I know Lakers fans are annoying. I am annoying when it comes to the Lakers. Id hate us too.

I think they met and he said he wanted out after the meeting. I know they were planning on meeting, but everybody on Espn was saying things like the spurs arent just going to go in there and offer the supermax without knowing that hes committed, thats not the Spurs way

Im not even sure if the actual meeting happened before he decided he wanted out.

So the supermax is only if he stays with the spurs, and then second most money is if he resigns with whatever team he gets traded to, and then least amount of money is if he leaves the team hes traded to and signs somewhere else

The meeting hasn't happened yet. I'm still holding out that Pop will work his magic with Kawhi, especially cause we can realistically sign LeBron too and get to the finals.

I don't see us trading him anywhere other than the East though, why in the fuck would Pop trade him to a western conference team? lol

Sorry Laker fans, I don't see that happening. Trade him to Boston for Taytum, Brown and draft picks

Thats what im saying. This reeks of his "camp" wanting his off the court dollars for sure. Most likely the more they wheel and deal off the court, the more they can get. As I imagine there's no incentive for them getting a commission for Kawhi signing the supermax cause he can do that by himself.

I guess their logic is lets get you to LA/NYC where we'll get you more endorsements, and they'll get some kind of commission per endorsement so there's more in it for them.

Whoever this uncle is, is unimaginably dumb. This is a very bad basketball decision for Kawhi, he's being seriously mislead

He doesnt like spotlight and speaking. So LA or NY would be slapping him in the face. I hope it happens. Being selfish when play for the most stable franchise in the league
