The green tunic is the original and it'll always have a place, but I wonder if this might be the new look people associate with him.

It was a breath of fresh air but lefty green link >>>> righty blue

the problem was the TP designs being allowed to stale him up through Smash

Holy crap? I haven't played the game just yet but does he really not get the green tunic in that game? I thought the blue outfit in the screenshots was jut his starter kit like how wind waker starts you off in plain clothes?

He can get it later as a optional thing.

You can also get his Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker outfits too if you use the appropriate amiibos.

I mean we did ask Nintendo to shake up the formula after being sick of tp and ss... but it was a staple I kinda enjoyed, like getting your first sword. Ah well no big deal.

its in the game but you only get it by completing all the shrines, which are mini-dungeon/puzzle rooms scattered all over the world, many of which are secret, require quests to unlock, etc. theres 120

OR OF COURSE BY USING AN AMIIBO!!!

Once you finish all of the shrines you can unlock the outfit he wore in the 1st LoZ.

There's also a tunic that you can get and dye green but it isn't quite the same. Other than the hat that comes with the original outfit I don't think there's a hat that looks similar.

Then there's a Dark Link set but it's one of the worst sets of clothes as far as defense goes.

Haven't played any of the DLC's so IDK if they added any other outfits with them.

I checked out some more images and it looks like they really did take the plunge and make zelda an out and out rpg this time around, there's like sets of armor with stats and stuff. I was planning to go into the game completely blind per usual but it's in my backlog and I won't get around to it for a while.

The tunic of the wild is new.

His original outfit is actually obtained using an amiibo.

Amiibos are basically DLC in physical statue form that can be applied in different ways to multiple games.

For example, let's take a Link amiibo. That one amiibo can be used in Smash Bros to create a version of Link that can be trained and leveled up to be stronger and behave differently from the normal Link AI. The same amiibo can also be used in Mario Kart 8 to unlock a unique Link-esque color scheme for the playable mii character. Same for Yoshis in Yoshi's Wooly World. It can also be used in Hyrule Warriors to unlock a weapon for Link in that game. It can also be used to unlock costumes and drop random items in Breath of the Wild. So, one amiibo can be used for numerous games.

If you're the collector type, you also get a neat, but cheap collectable figurine.

The thing is, some amiibos are obviously going to get more use than others. Mario, Link, Marth, Ike, etc get a lot more mileage as DLC than, say, Shulk, ROB, Duck Hunt, Mr Game and Watch, etc.

The green tunic is in the game (non-amiibo) but it's an optional reward.

That said I really do like the blue shirt, but I dunno how I feel about it being the new staple look for Link. Would rather them think up new looks for him with each game (while keeping the green tunic look as either optional or a late-game thing).
